The Honda Civic Coupe body style was first released in 1995, and since then, the design has seen many iterations. Personally, we’ve always liked the boxy-style 1995 original Civic Coupe best.

Until we saw the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe, that is.

A Coupe that Doesn’t Resemble a Snail

The 2016 Honda Civic Coupe rolls 20 years of design, technological advances, and enthusiast modifications into one chimichanga of Honda excellence. And you won’t need any extra hot sauce for this meal.

The exterior alterations to the coupe are subtle, but strikingly effective. The 2016 is more angular than its predecessors, which is a welcome change from the bulbous appearance that plagues so many coupes. The longer wheel base and wider stance also lower the 2016’s center of gravity, making for agile handling and a sleeker look.

The 2016 Civic now features LED headlights and taillights, the latter of which span the entire length of the rear bumper. Honda has also re-sculpted the front and rear fascia to reduce wind-resistance and increase downforce. Although the rear is still somewhat sizable it’s been tapered to the center, giving it a fluid appearance that doesn’t detract from the rest of the vehicle.

We think the lines on the Honda Civic Coupe are pretty easy on the eyes.

Engines You Won’t Want to Swap

Under the hood, the coupe is stock equipped with a 2.0-liter four cylinder engine that makes 158 horsepower and 138lb-ft of torque. As always, Honda’s efficient engines deliver an astounding MPG rating of 31 city, 41 highway.

The other option is a 1.5-liter turbo four cylinder, with 174 horsepower and 162lb-ft torque. This engine is a lot quicker, and the turbo even adds more efficiency on the highway. It’s rated at 31/42, and come stock with a 6-speed manual. Both engines can be equipped with a manual or continuously variable transmission, though.

Apple, Android, Google, SiriusXM, and more

Talk about high-tech. The Civic coupe packs everything into its infotainment experience. Apple CarPlay, Google’s Android Auto, SiriusXM Radio, and an SMS text function that all integrates to your vehicle’s interface. These technologies may not sound like much on paper, but in the car they’ll save you time, energy, and keep you safer.

Looking Forward

We really hope that the future holds a Civic Coupe Type-R edition. We know classic Civic fans would love to see that turbocharged 306 horsepower engine inside their Coupe, complete with a sturdy manual transmission and all-wheel drive. We’ll just have to wait and see.

We’ll be sure to let you know when the 2016 Civics roll into our dealership, so if you’re interested be sure to keep your eyes peeled!
